10 Questions With Designer Leah Da Gloria

DESIGNER LEAH DA GLORIA

1.How did you get your start designing wedding dresses?

I have always been designing and making clothes for as long as I can remember. My grandmother was a dressmaker. I spent a lot of time with her and learned to sew by watching her.

After studying fashion design, my first job after graduating was in bridal. It felt like a natural progression because I enjoyed the hands-on creative process.

2.When did you open your business?

I started the business in 2012.

3. What is the vision of your brand.

The vision for my brand is luxury bridal that is empowering and flattering for the modern bride.

4. How would you describe the looks of your gowns and the fabrics and treatment.

This season there is a focus on clean, tailored styles and structure. In terms of fabrics, we are using a lot of Italian silk Mikado, organza and 3D floral embroideries.

5. Do you have a signature style?

It's hard to define one's own signature style, it's often easier for others to identify it.

I feel like my style is constantly evolving. However there are certain elements that I am consistently drawn to, primarily the juxtaposition of architectural lines and soft feminine details.

6. How many collections do you design a season?

We normally release one Boheme Collection and one Couture Collection per year.

7. Tell us a bit about your design process?

I start with embroidery selections and then begin to map out the silhouettes. Ideas pop into my mind randomly but these days I try to be more organized with my design process so there is a semblance of cohesion to the collections.

8, What is the inspiration for Fall 2023?

I've felt a shift in style over the past 12 months, a movement to cleaner, simpler styles. Less embellishment. I think Fall 2023 is inspired by a modern re-imagining of some classic shapes.

9. Where are you showing your collection in NYC?

I will be showing the collection with Union Square Couture.

10. What are the price points?

Our BOHEME collection is from $5000-$12000 and Couture collection is $12,000+.
