Members of The Bridal Council were key in setting trends on the Golden Globes red carpet. From Tiffany Haddish to Kate Beckinsale, Bridal Council designers dressed the biggest names in film for the first award show of the new year. Among the featured designers were Monique Lhuillier, Romona Keveza, Galia Lahav, Carolina Herrera and Rita Vinieris.

BEAUTY

Here are six beauty trends to swoon over in 2020, as reported by our beauty expert Dana Wood.

1. Ana de Armas: That Crimson Kisser

It was the “Knives Out” star’s first time at the Globes – and as a Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy nominee, no less. The Cuban beauty brought it, big time, in a sequin, strapless, midnight navy Ralph & Russo ballgown that twinkled like the evening sky. Also drawing focus: those lips, which were prepped with Epicuren Anti-Aging Lip Balm and then swiped with Giorgio Armani Beauty Lip Maestro Liquid in 402, a beguiling red with blue undertones. All in all, a dazzling debut.

2. Gillian Anderson: That Softly Fuzzy French Twist

According to The Daily Mail (fess up, we know you read it), 51year-old Anderson “rarely” makes a public appearance. If so, that’s a pity, because she’s seriously beautiful. For the Globes, hairstylist Kylee Heath was targeting a “soft yet sophisticated” vibe, complete with wispy side tendrils. “We decided to leave a couple pieces loose to frame the face and to keep it soft,” said Heath. The end goal? “Done without being too structured.”

3. Cate Blanchett: That Ethereal Glow

As a native Australian, Blanchett used a portion of her presenting time to thank the firefighters battling the climate disaster currently raging Down Under. She also radiated an ethereal glow from the podium, an airy, age-appropriate look punctuated by intense black eyeliner and blush-pink lips. With visible wrinkles around her icy blue eyes, and a deeply cool pompadour by hairstylist Robert Vetica, Blanchett exuded full-on “take me as I am” confidence. Refreshing.

4. Laura Dern: That Ultra-Dewy Skin

Talk about having a moment. If you haven’t seen Dern’s mesmerizing – and Golden Globe-winning! - turn as a flawlessly presented divorce attorney in “Marriage Story,” do yourself a favor and get Netflixing now. Like immediately. But back to beauty. To complement her frisky, youthful YSL frock, Dern opted for soft beach waves, rosy cheeks and the skin of a 20 year-old. “Liquids keep skin dewier and more fresh-looking than powders,” said makeup artist Simone Siegl. Bring on the liquid blush and foundation, stat.

5. Gugu Mbatha-Raw: That Slice of Orange

Cute, cute, cute – that’s Mbatha-Raw in a nutshell. For the Globes, makeup artist Nick Barose decided orange lips were the perfect pairing for the young actress’s sequin yellow dress. “Orange makes the look feel more quirky, and it also complements Gugu’s golden complexion,” Barose said. “I kept the rest of the face understated but also played up the brows to make them a bit stronger, more defined, with flirty lashes.” Well done.

6: Rachel Weisz: That Sexy Side Swoop

What do you do when you’re married to Daniel “007” Craig? You make sure to dial-up the wow factor for major red carpet outings, that’s what. Yes, Weisz is naturally stunning, but it always helps to have hairstylist Mark Townsend shaping your long, lush brunette locks into a cascade of shimmering waves. “I never want to stop playing with this gorgeous hair,” Townsend Instagrammed pre-show. Can you blame him?

JEWELRY

As reported by our Jewelry expert, Amy Elliot

Statement necklaces returned to the red carpet as the evening’s must-have accessory, with many megawatt stars choosing one (one or a few) to complement their voluminous ballgowns, slinky sequined sheaths, or lingerie-inspired looks.

Too many Golden Globes 2020 red carpet moments to revisit but the most memorable jewels featured emeralds or vibrant blue sapphires (or as in the case of Charlize Theron, a little bit and lot of both).

Here’s a rundown of our favorite red carpet jewelry looks, from Cynthia Erivo’s 3 million-dollar Bulgari moment to Zoey Deutch’s sautoir featuring a 58.69 ct. star sapphire cabochon from Harry Winston.
