10 Questions with Designer Madeline Gardner on her Debut Couture Collection
Michele Iacovelli
1) The new couture collection, have you always wanted to do this?
Yes, it’s always been a dream of mine to present and design bridal gowns at the couture level.
2) What is the collection’s name?
MADELINE
3) Describe the design vision.
This collection is inspired by beauty from within and the concept of being beautiful from both the inside and out. Not only have I designed these gowns to be stunning on the outside, but I’ve also placed a tremendous amount of detail on the interior construction of the gowns.
4) What kind of fabrics and treatments will you be using?
I’ve curated the most exquisite fabrics that speak to the collection’s level of luxury and rich details. From lush tulle, silk crepe, and satins, to hand-painted silks.
5) What kind of silhouettes?
Offering diverse shapes and silhouettes was very important to me. There’s a variety of ballgowns, slim sheaths, and contoured mermaids.
6) What is the inspiration for this debut collection?
Exquisitely modern designs are created for the bride who chooses to take a modern approach to elevated bridal fashion.
7) How will it be different from the other lines you design?
I’ve placed a much higher focus on rich fabrications, exquisite embellishments, and couture-inspired silhouettes.
8) Describe the bride you have in mind when designing this collection?
This collection is designed with the fashion-forward, modern bride in mind who appreciates unique design elements of couture and all the details that go into the creation and construction of the gown.
9) What did you like most about designing the couture collection?
It brought me back to my couture training that I incorporate into all of my designs, but in this collection, it’s really elevated to the next level.
10) Will you be doing trunk shows?
Yes! I love doing trunk shows and meeting my brides. Having that one-on-one time with them allows me to really hone in on what they are looking for when it comes to the design and comfortability of their gown.
